Without them, decision-making can plateau even when basic capabilities exist.
Curiosity is the first enabler. It pushes understanding beyond the obvious, asks follow-up questions, explores alternatives, and challenges assumptions. It counters cognitive distortion by refusing to settle too quickly for the first explanation that makes sense. Curiosity must be directed, however; unfocused exploration can become distraction. The goal is not to know everything but to know what matters.
Humility is the second enabler. It keeps judgment adaptive by acknowledging incomplete understanding, separating identity from decisions, welcoming correction, learning from others, and balancing confidence with openness. Brady presents humility not as weakness but as the condition that allows improvement to continue. Confidence lets people act; humility lets them update.
Truth is the final enabler. Brady defines truth as alignment with reality as accurately as it can currently be understood. Some operational truths change as constraints change, but foundational values such as integrity, honesty, responsibility, justice, respect, and accountability provide continuity. Discernment lives between rigid certainty and complete relativism: anchored enough to remain stable, flexible enough to learn.
